43rd Symposium for Theoretical Chemistry 2007

  Location

Location

For the first time, the Symposium for Theoretical Chemistry will take place in the State of Saarland. The state of Saarland is the smallest non-city state in Germany with close to 1 million inhabitants. Lying on the boarder to France and having shifted between being French and German repeatedly (some 10 - 15 times during the last 200 years), the combined influence of Germany and France can still be felt very clearly everywhere, giving an interesting bi-national flavour. The state of Saarland is not a rich state and its past mining history is recognizable everywhere.

Saarland has a single university, the University of Saarland, founded in 1948 during the period of French administration after the Second World War. It is situated at two places, Homburg with the Faculty of Medicine, and Saarbrücken with the other faculties. Chemistry has since the beginning being represented at the university.

In the year 1999 it was decided to change the research direction of one of the professorships of Physical Chemistry to the field of Theoretical Chemistry, and since 2000 this position has been filled. First with this, theoretical chemistry has become an established part of the chemistry department in Saarland.

We in Saarland would like very much to welcome the theoretical-chemistry community to the 43rd Symposium for Theoretical Chemistry. Lacking facilities in Saarland that can accommodate such a symposium, but still wanting to present "our Saarland" to the community, we have decided to hold the symposium at the University of Saarland in Saarbrücken.
